Well, fighting games don't use servers. They use a Peer-To-Peer connection. If you have a friend to play with, you should always be able to get a game.
Derp. I know better--not sure why I thought servers. XD

My hope is that I get an enjoyable new hobby that comes with a community of new friends.

My fear is that I'll never have the skill needed to enjoy participating in the game.

My only real hopes are that the game gets more characters as DLC (free or paid for, doesn't matter to me honestly) after the game releases and that it becomes popular enough to be put on Xbox Live and PSN for the home consoles.

No real fears. If I really have to think about it, my only fear is a not very well implemented online matching system.

The biggest risk is that the game won't get enough coverage, so when it drops there's online activity for a few weeks, and then nothing: all the lobbies are empty, nobody to play with online, the only hope is to find a friend to play with you locally. No matter how much I'm hyped for this game, I just can't see it becoming a giant hit that will still be played frequently years from now.

A big part of a fighting game's longevity is it's community (though that goes for almost all multiplayer games, to be honest).

I hope this game gains a significant scene in the fighting game community, for those who were on the Lawyer Friendly Equines:FIM days you might know that the game was guaranteed as a main event on EVO thanks to donations, but couldn't make it cause of the legal strike, but now with this game, i really hope it can make it to mayor tournaments and attract the best players, AND offcourse, get a good spot in colombia´s FGC scene

My biggest fears are that the game could fall into that (TFH: turbo edition, TFH: ultimate fight, TFH: the final edition) not being patches but the entire game, for god's sake please don't do that, and thus losing compatibility with previous versions. And DLC's 7 characters is cool but not enough for today's fighting games, so they are probably gonna make more characters in the future, but i hate that business model of games nowadays  , i really wish they could realease them free for general public, or at least that for every DLC char that costs money, they make another free

Only Capcom is really notorious for that kind of thing, and it's a symptom of being a huge company. I sincerely and completely doubt that'll ever happen with TFH.

Arc System Works also does this with Blazblue and Guilty Gear. But yeah, indies don't usually do that kind of thing, so it's not something anyone should be worried about.

I'm hoping that we get playable predators as well as champions. In terms of story mode, remember how in Sonic Adventure 2 where you could choose between the hero and dark storylines? Something like that, but replaced with Champions and Predators obviously

Hopes - That the game will last long past everyone's expectation

Fears - Lobby will dissolve into a brony/furry roleplay server.
That'll happen as soon as lobbies become creatable, mark my words. It was only a few days before they started popping up on Overwatch's new browser, and I've seen some things in other games. The attack will be swift and it will be deadly.

Also I'll probably make the first one solely because you said this.

My biggest fear is definitely the game not catching on or tripping up at the start of it's release. My biggest questions include how do you get the FGC to try and play your game to where it doesn't seem like a typical fighter that people pick up for a month and then drop all together. I love all the ideas they have to keep a strong and fun community but I don't want it being all for nothing if the game doesn't have lasting power.

Aside from working and getting the game onto console (PS4/XBone Markets), what are some things that can be done to ensure this game does well and establishes that strong community that will make droves of players keep coming back to it? How is getting the word out about this game going to work? Is there advertising planned? If not, what are ways of getting the name out?

In regards to the console market, is it being considered to look for a publisher to assist with getting the game out onto market? (Capcom, SNK, Namco, ARC etc)

I think, this game will live on because it sounds like it will have a big focus on training. This will make it good for like "hey, whats a good intro to fighters?" "TFHs has a great tutorial focus and a nice balance (and a killer soundtrack!) and it's a fighting game with animals...ANIMALS!"

Biggest fears for this game is a couple of things:

1. Since TFH have moved away from the Lawyer Friendly Equines brand, that while it may still have bronies from the Lawyer Friendly Equines fandom still on board, most of them dropped off once DMCA hit Mane6 for the Fighting is Magic game.

2. Game comes out, no one cares, and it sells drastically low

3. System mechanics don't mesh, and or the game will be too broken to the point where you have one touch of death combos and becomes something like Marvel.

4. Gameplay ends up being boring

5. Characters may not appeal to anyone who wants to play a new fighting game

6. Not enough players to keep the game alive in the FGC, though as I say that I am from the Skullgirls Scene, and while we have low in numbers, we are still very much active.

I think the other fears in this thead is pretty valid, as well as something to hope will not happen. I think Mane6 can pull off a great product, its a matter of how exactly they can pull it off with advertising the game, present it to people across the board.

I see a ton of you folks have the same kind of fear that the game won't catch on or it'll be dead a few months later. Unfortunately that's the reality most fighting games have to face at some point if you aren't a street fighter, marvel, tekken, mk, etc. It's up to the community like oreo said, start a local scene for the game where you are, get your friends playing it, get your friends, friends playing it, bring the game to every tournament or con you go to, play it everyday online! As long as people are playing it then it won't be dead. I don't really have any fears myself, I just want to get in and start learning the game with people and helping out newcomers to fighting games and all that stuff.
