Popular YouTubers Playing?

I've been thinking. Once this game drops, will multi-million subscriber YouTubers play it?

I don't know about all of your personal opinions concerning people like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, but I general, I think we can agree that if a game makes it onto their channel, it's gonna get some recognition, at least a little.

I just wanna know, if any, which YouTubers you wanna see play the game once it's available? I personally want the Game Theorists to play it on GT Live. They seem to do a good job covering the games for what they are worth, seeing that their streams are longer.

I just thought it would be cool and an interesting topic to think about, but if you hate all of them, gladly scorn me for even bringing this up. I'm a tank, I've got the HP to take it. Bring it on lmao

I figure the biggest chance of someone popular playing it would be the Super Best Friends. Maybe an outside chance at Maximilian. I don't expect the MASSIVE youtubers like Mark, Jack, or Felix to touch this game, or about any fighting game, really. But who knows?

I think the game has a bit of novelty to it that might encourage the sillier let’s players to give it a try, like Dunky or Jerma. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is yet to be seen.

I also imagine that Totalbiscuit would consider giving the game a shot, seeing as he liked Skullgirls and he often covers games that can create a bit of unique discussion (which I think this game can). Though I also also imagine he’ll be a little skeptic about the small roster size and episodic story mode release. Value proposition yo.

I agree with both of you, probably not the huge ones, but probably the ones that will reach their target audience by playing it. I like where this is going!

I'd love to see Maximilian gets his hands on this. I think it'd be great PR for the game. Plus, he's very fun to watch in and of himself and I'm curious to see what he'd think of the game given his vast knowledge of fighting games and their mechanics.

I've read somewhere that he's expressed zero interest in this game but I never saw a source for when or where he said it. Hence why I said it was an outside chance. I -think- one of the Best Friends has mentioned it before, so perhaps they'll jump on it once it's released. I wondered if maybe one of them would play the beta, if any of them even have it, but perhaps they'd just prefer the actual 1.0 release. But yeah I've love to see Max have a crack at this and have a little fun figuring out some dankness in the characters before running them through Arcade.

Gonna be 100% here. Best I'm hoping for is for FloE to stumble across the game in one of his random Steam game streams, try it for about an hour or two, run through arcade mode, say it was better than expected, and move on to something else.

Yeah, I haven't seen him say anything about it either, so I'm curious if he's even heard of it. I'd like to think that he's open minded enough to at least give it a shot based on the gameplay aspects instead of the premise and art style (which we all know will make the game carry a stigma alongside it based on another cutesy, colorful property that has a similar problem when looked at by the masses) but we'll have to see when the game fully releases. On that note, I'm also hoping that TFH will spread out far enough to garner reviews from different gaming sites and other Youtube personalities (be they fighting game specific or otherwise, but preferably the former) so it has the best possible chance at being successful. Especially if that means console ports in the near future.

I kind of imagined Max backing/playing the game only because he had lost a bet of some sort on one of his streams.

I guess that's fair. I can imagine his wife making him play the game.

Just to not be overly negative though, check out this little mention on UltrachenTV. (A (in my opinion) prominent FGC Talkshow hosted by Ultradavid and James Chen, who you can often see commentating SFV and other major fighting game tournaments out there)

That's super cool to hear. I'm not too big into the fighting game scene (besides this and SSF4, it's later iterations, and a smidge of UMVC3, I haven't dabbled in many other fighting games), but I'm assuming that these guys are well-known in the fighting game community and to hear them praising the game on its mechanics and its presentation is great to hear. Hopefully, this is a taste of things to come and the game is heavily praised when it officially releases.

It's an interesting problem... if somebody does review the game, they're inevitably going to touch on the history that led to its creation, as that's an interesting story. I think the best path to take when the game releases is for Mane6 to emphasize that Them's Fightin' Herds is its own property with its own story, and that it isn't just a reskinned version of that other game.

The tough thing will be to try to persuade reviewers (and customers!) to appreciate the game on its own merits. On its own merits, though, I think it can fare well: Earlier this week, I played the beta with a friend. He isn't a gamer by any stretch of the word, but he was a teenager in the 1990s and has fond memories of Street Fighter. I described the game to him simply as "a fighting game, but with four-legged animals" and didn't say anything beyond that. As he played, he never made an association with any animated TV series, and after we went through all of the characters, he said that he enjoyed it. (He also kept calling Tianhuo a "he," but he'll figure that out once the voices are added.)

I think that convincing people who are aware of the game's history to view the finished product through neutral eyes is going to be the difficult part (especially if they instantly have a bias against that other property). I'm not familiar with the world of YouTube gamers, but assuming that there are some who take a satirical/mocking bent to their reviews, I wouldn't even try to convince them to look at the game (they'll just latch on to the "unconventional fanbase" angle at the expense of what's actually there). But if there are players who are willing to take the game at face value, it would be interesting to get their take on it.

On the whole, though, I think this is a game that's going to need strong word of mouth in order to sell well.

This is an amazing summary of what I think the main problem this game's initial reception will have to overcome, props to ya man

100% this!
That's is where one of the problems lies is the fact people will bring up the previous project and people will turn it down because of that. It doesn't help that they kept the name "Mane6" even though they're trying to keep away from that other franchise as much as possible.

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly with this. At the end of the day, the word of mouth is what's going to sell this game. It is unfortunate that the game's history is going to be part of that word of mouth so there's almost no getting away from it. But at the same time, if that's what get's people interested into the game and the people who play it are able to enjoy it enough to where the history doesn't matter (something I feel is already being done based on the gameplay alone and will be further supported by the story mode), I don't think it's history is a bad thing. When all's said and done, the execution is what matters regardless of the history behind it. It's similar to how there are multiple films with similar storylines but are only considered good or bad based on how they executed the storyline. I feel that game's are similar in how a gameplay style can be used across multiple games, but some do it really well and are praised accordingly while others do it terribly and are given negative reception as a result.

Yeah, sadly, the back story of this game previously being an Lawyer Friendly Equines game is bound to sour a lot of people on it, even without judging it by its own merits. That's why I imagine a lot of FGC people who frequent EVO (where the previous game appeared one time) might not be interested, though generally I feel like Max is the kind of person to set aside initial impressions of a game and instead see how it plays, even if he doesn't play it for very long. Many others are not like that, though. I guess all you can hope for is people who know the rather amazing story of this game (going from a C&D in the face to having Lauren and the Z-Engine) decide that it's reason enough to give it a chance (not to mention how unique it is in many ways). Plus you already have Skullgirls players who have played this at a few events now and immediately feel synergy with it, so they evidently don't care that it used to be what it was, if they even know.

I guess we'll see, but remember this game got almost $600 grand in its crowdfund, and has gotten a bunch of quiet steam since then from plenty of people who are sad they missed the crowdfund and would like beta access, so yeah. We got a bigger initial fanbase for this game than you think. Once this thing does finally hit 1.0 release, be sure to submit news tips to websites that have covered it before, like Eventhubs, Shoryuken, Kotaku, etc. They will all help! Then it's just playing the waiting game.

NOW WHAT YOU GOTTA DO WITH ARIZONA IS FIERCE. FIERCE MIXUPS INTO FIERCE. AM I GONNA FIERCE, OR WILL I FIERCE?

Yeah James Chen has always been high on this project, I think even back when it was Lawyer Friendly Equines. He repped it during the crowdfund and was happy it recovered from the C&D, so I'm not too shocked to see this from him. :)

That's right, I almost forgot the droves of people who have talked about how sad they were in missing the original crowdfund. While the $600 grand I don't think counts much for it's popularity only because I'm assuming most of the people who did crowdfund the game crowdfunded it with enough money to get the game when it launches, the fact that there's so many other people who expressed interest in the game post-crowdfund and expressed sadness at missing the crowdfund I think will definitely help it's popularity post-release. Here's hoping.

I could also see some lawyer friendly equine YouTubers playing it.
I just found this thread and would like to put in my two bits.
Back in early beta I played with Viva Reverie, he has expressed interest in fighting games in the past and might do an animation based off of the characters when the game comes out with the story mode.

I know I'm late on this discussion, but I would indeed really like to see Max and the other people you all have mentioned play TFH. But I'd also like to see what Angry Joe thinks if it, when the game has been released in its full glory if course. :)
You're never too late to the party. The game isn't out yet, and until then, we'll have to keep theorizing!

I'd be interested in what he thinks of the game as well, but I'm not that frequent of a watcher for his stuff. Does he play fighting games much?

He's played and reviewed several and seems to like them quite alot. He's reviewed, MVC3, Injustice, and maaaaybe skull Girls? I can't remember. But He'd probably be up for this game.. I think anyways.. I have no idea if he knows it exists at the moment.

But if he doesn't its probably for the best, until the game comes out.
