I stopped reading the main series after the travesty that was The Good The Bad and the Ponies, but Friends Forever seems to hold itself to a higher standard most of the time.
Of course I'd like to see Sunset in FiM. As I said, she's one of my favorite characters. As a bonus, it would stop people from saying that Lawyer Friendly Hominids is "not canon." :vOkay, I hope I don't bring a bunch of contention into this thread, but I'm curious: Would you guys be opposed to any sort of crossover between the main show and Lawyer Friendly Hominids? I mainly ask this because Sunset is my favorite overall, but I feel like there's some interesting concepts that could at least be brought up in the actual show (i.e. Sunset's backstory in The Glue Factory, the Sirens, etc.).
I know that a lot of people don't like Lawyer Friendly Hominids, but I'm still curious to hear some thoughts. Personally, I don't really mind the movies (and I actually liked Rainbow Rocks a lot), so I wouldn't mind at least a little bit of reference to them in the show.
There are still some good comics, I think. But there have also been some seriously bad ones. Like the one you mention. I think Katie Cook does much better when she's writing the smaller, single-issue stories versus the multi-issue story arcs. Reflections was a disappointment, The Good, the Bad and the Ponies was bad, and the one with the deer was bad. The Chrysalis issue of the Fiendship series was fantastic, though. Actually, most of those were great. But not the Sirens issue, unfortunately.I stopped reading the main series after the travesty that was The Good The Bad and the Ponies, but Friends Forever seems to hold itself to a higher standard most of the time.
Normally I would want to collect all the things, but that one is beyond the pale.*snip*
And the Lawyer Friendly Hominids Hoilday Special is simply the worst. Just... bleh.
I wouldn't hate it, but I kind of prefer to have Lawyer Friendly Hominids to be basically a non-canon (whatever the officials say) spin-off stuff.Okay, I hope I don't bring a bunch of contention into this thread, but I'm curious: Would you guys be opposed to any sort of crossover between the main show and Lawyer Friendly Hominids? Well, I expect the animation to get boosted up a notch or two, especially seeing as it has been picked up for theater distribution. I don't want it to change the style, just the quality (like how the show's animation quality went up with the passing of the seasons, so to speak). Maybe a few extra uses of the 3D/2.5D shaded animation that was almost never used in the show itself. Only time I can recall it being used was when Timid Ferovore Hoers went hermit mode during the "Assertive Timid Ferovore Hoers, Iron Will" episode.Oh yeah, I didn't even realize that the movie was coming out next year! Since a few of you have brought that up, let me ask this: Do you have any specific hopes/expectations for the movie? Of course we don't really have any details on it, but it's fun to wonder what it might be like.
If memory serves The Toy Company stated that the EG movies are not canon, though honestly I wouldn't mind if they were. Tying in the sirens in the The Glue Factory mythology, having something related with Sunset Shimmer, seeing the pony versions of Abacus Cinch and the Crystal Prep representation - yeah, I could dig that.Okay, I hope I don't bring a bunch of contention into this thread, but I'm curious: Would you guys be opposed to any sort of crossover between the main show and Lawyer Friendly Hominids?
Fair criticism and thanks for pointing it out, as it inspired me to google things up and the results were different than I expected.I've seen the notion that Lawyer Friendly Hominids was officially declared non-canon brought up a lot, but I've never actually seen the word from The Toy Company saying "hey, this doesn't count." Not saying you're wrong, as I could have totally just missed it, but it's something that's come up again and again and I'm curious if it's not just a rumor that's spread around as fact.
Yeah, I didn't mean to call you out specifically, it was just a train of thought that I've seen around and I was curious where it came from. I appreciate that you brought up those tweets, 'cause that helps to clarify the situation.Fair criticism and thanks for pointing it out, as it inspired me to google things up and the results were different than I expected.
Going by this and this tweet, it would appear the canon status is closer to "yes, it happened, but if you really don't like it, it won't be referred to in the episodes making it easier for you to ignore it if you so wish". Which is fine for me given my mentioned approach that I'm ok with it being canon.
Holy crap, that's amazing!Yeah, I remember reading ages ago that it was officially canon, but I like that they didn't really incorporate it into the main series. It allows those that really don't like it to pretend it doesn't exist.
Anyway, on to the reason I popped by. Someone posted this animation that is amazingly well done, like, show accurate well done. So close that I'm surprised The Toy Company hasn't C&D'd the channel (they have a few other similarly show accurate vids, including a ~1M long one that is in 8K 0_o Didn't even know Youtube supported that resolution).

I know, downloading now... but I'm not sure the computer I'm at will be able to run it... Once I get home I'll be able to give that demo a sufficient playthrough. It's amazing that this finally came outFallout The Glue Factory Wave 3 Demo is a Go: Click to Get
It is available in 64 and 32 bit versions. I'm still DLing mine at the amazing speed of about 50KBps. I grabbed it from Overmare Studios directly because Mega is the devil and eats up C drive space (however temporarily these days. I don't have the space to spare on it regardless).
I'm in the same boat, my crappy laptop here at school probably won't be able to run it. I haven't looked much into the game, but I loved the story and Fallout itself, so I'll definitely give it a look when I can.I know, downloading now... but I'm not sure the computer I'm at will be able to run it... Oh man, I was the same way. As soon as the little jingle started up I clicked forward on the video so fast. Now it's no big deal, but back then, that theme song was rough to get by...But now you're making me think back to when I first gave the show a try and cringed a little every time the theme played. xp
Wouldn't surprise me if the Japanese broadcast has had 9 different openings so far. The one I saw was kind of awful though, so I'm fine with the single one that we're stuck with. I think we can all agree, however, that the Italian intro is the best (if a bit long).I don't like the theme much to this day. It gets the point across and works well enough for the show, but I kinda would have liked them to properly change it between seasons. They only make little revisions. A whole new theme would have been nice, but that ship has long sailed I think, they're now stuck with it.
Don't worry about it. I've been in the scene for a bit, and I just avoid the creepy stuff. Sure there's a lot of it, but I more or less keep myself away from it. I went to Ponycon in NYC recently, and there was a lot of cool stuff that fans made that I liked there. So there's a lot of really cool stuff, you just gotta remember that there's stuff that may or may not jive with ya, and learn how to avoid it (as much as possible).I am currently on season 3 of Lawyer Friendly Equines, but know what happened at the end of season 5.
Feeling kind of conflicted about the show and fanbase at the moment. Probably doesn't help that I'm so late to the party. I still feel kind of embarrassed about watching it. And some of the fanbase goes into creepy territory very easily. But for some reason I'm still here, and still part of it.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the grand finale. Well, the show's grand finale, I can see the comics continuing for years.Oh yeah, I didn't even realize that the movie was coming out next year! I have to agree, it really gives off that grand finale feeling. But it'd really be a great way to wrap everything up, and by that point I feel like the show will have had enough content to be wrapped up with solid closure for the fans. I'd certainly be okay with that as the ending.I wouldn't be surprised if it's the grand finale. Well, the show's grand finale, I can see the comics continuing for years.
Yet on the other hand, I don't care how long it goes as long as the quality doesn't decline. I'm in this for the long haul!I have to agree, it really gives off that grand finale feeling. That said, I could also see them continuing the show just because of how popular it is. I'd also be entirely fine with that too!
And yeah, I feel like the comics will stick around well past the actual show. If anything, it would be nice to have more content after the main show is over.
God damn, Dexter's lab was great. My older sister had some G1 ponies, but I don't remember anything about them from back then.
Closest thing I remember about old ponies (that I watched before G4) is the episode of Dexter's Lab where Dexter and Dee Dee both won a sweepstakes to meet with their favorite tv show characters. Their mail got mixed around, so they each ended going to the wrong event, with Dee Dee meeting the definitely-not-an-A-Team-reference guys and Dexter meeting and being attacked by the totally-not-my-little-pony-rip-offs. Then Dee Dee and Action Hank and co had to rescue Dexter from becoming a sacrifice to the pony princess or whatever (it's been a while, so the finer points escape me). It was nuts.
