    Currently hiring: 2D (Pixel) Artist

    M6ISHIRING.png

    Mane6’s Art Team is growing!

We’re currently seeking a 2D “pixel” artist to join our team in the creation of various assets, including backgrounds, tilework and object/character pixel-art animation for “Them’s Fightin’ Herds”. You will be producing character and environment pixel art for the story mode and for the game’s “pixel lobby” overworld.

This is a contracted, full time job opportunity working remotely, based on a California time (PT) timezone schedule.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Create illustrative environmental tilesets for story and pixel lobby features. This includes sources of water and varied architecture. Low frame animation might be required.
      • Assets are based using a 32×32 grid.
      • No palette limitations, but keeping color count low per asset.
    • Create character art with simple, low frame animation for story and pixel lobby features.
    • Create cosmetic props (hats, character accessories, etc.) for story and pixel lobby features.
    • Create pixel-art particles and other SFX for use in story and pixel lobby features.
    • Create pixel-art icons and other User Interface objects and elements.
    • Balance quality and production speed to meet weekly deadlines for new content updates.
    • Quickly iterate on assets based on production team feebdack.
    Requisites & Qualifications
    • At least 4 years experience with 2D art software (Photoshop preferred)
    • At least 1 year experience creating pixel art and pixel animation.
    • At least 1 year of experience working in the field of game development.
    Bonus Qualifications
    • Big bonus! – Excellent understanding of game development pipelines, particularly familiarity with the needs and mechanics of a fighting game.
    • Experience with general art/animation software (Flash/Animate CC/Blender)
    • Experience with Spriter
    • Previous work on a shipped commercial game title.
    How to Apply
If you’re interested in this position, please send an email to jobs(at)mane6(dot)com with the subject line “Job application- TFH Pixel Artist”. Include a link to an up-to-date portfolio in the first line, and your resume or CV in the e-mail’s body (No attachments). Applicants without a portfolio will regretfully not be considered.

Please note that due to the number of applications, we will only be notifying successful applicants.

Hope I'm not being too rude with this question, but what happened with the previous one?

Wasn't it like 1 or 2 people working on the pixel art?
Nice to see an extra pair of hands to help move things along faster.

We lost contact with him after 3 months in deep space. Last thing we received was a garbled message. Something about black holes and russian speaking anthro dogs?

Real answer: We have between 2 and 2.5 people that work on the art side of pixel stuff. Jay, Leedin and 1.437 limbs of Anu. Since everyone's been pulling triple or quadruple duty doing everything, and since now we have some income from game sales that we can redirect into more gamedev, we're looking into expanding to get a dedicated pixel artist to partially lighten everyone's load.

I can't personally do it, both for time and skill reasons, but I shared with an artist friend who lives in California, and she said she'd signal booster it.

Side note: Check out Ratgirl Productions. She's great.

So the Pixel artist went AWOL. Hopefully no work was lost because of this so whoever is hired can pick up from there. Any info on how close you are to finishing Arizonas story so far?

In any case, I think it's great that you guys take action when a problem happens, and even let us know (even if it's simply the big lines). This raises that feeling of trust even more! Plus, you get to hire new people, which is great! And to think all started from a fan game years ago...

    First post here!
This looks like a great opportunity that I'd love to work on.
Only I've been using Flash for over eight years for work, and almost no Photoshop.
Well, I was close to working with you!

Ah, I misunderstood your post then. The part about black holes and russian anthro dogs was obviously a joke but losing contact would still have been plausible.

I like the part where the official, formal list of job responsibilities includes the autocorrected word "feebdack."

I have some experience working in fan games with character art, animation, and particle effects, but the bulk of the work is tilesets, correct? I have knowledge in that area but little experience.

Will you make an announcement or status update of some sort once you've selected candidates?

Employers interviewing candidates for a job generally don't make an announcement until someone is hired. Being transparent during the selection process can lead to problems: in general, it's not something you want outsiders to be scrutinizing. You don't want to have to deal with people asking you (or worse, gossiping about their own reasons) why you chose candidate A over candidate B and so on. (There are exceptions and Mane6 can handle it however they want, though, obviously.)

Pretty much this. We'll let people know the post has been taken once we've made a final decision, but updates on how the process is going are unlikely.

Guys I don't know if it will help but you forgot to update your "job opportunities" page from your website with this. Maybe somebody that didn't see it yet will see it there?
