Ideas for the Pixel Lobbies.

Firstly, the game is coming along great. (I'm still not good at it, not by a long shot, but I can tell things are piecing together very well.) I was in a Pixel Lobby this morning, and I decided to spectate a few matches. Then a thought hit me: Why not make it a bit more interesting for those who are watching the match? Perhaps some sort of 'Place Your Bets' mechanic where spectators can vote or bet on who they think will win? Whether it be just a vote which can add up and give some sort of 'something' to the winner of the fight, or betting in-game items? (Since you can apparently collect salt from chests . . . not too sure why.) Along with that, maybe some way to cheer on your favored player? In way that isn't too distracting for the fighters, of course. Those were just a couple of my thoughts. Also, perhaps they could allow someone to spectate a fight that's already in progress. I find it just a bit tedious that I need to wait for the current fight (which could last quite some time) to end before I can spectate. Anyone out there agree?

Thanks for reading, and have a Pony-tastic day!

Placing bets could be interesting, also I haven't played it but I've been watching tons of videos on the game and yeah, I have noticed that about spectating. So I definitely agree that needs to be fixed, if possible anyways.

Betting would be cool, but I think that bets shouldn't be disclosed to fighters before or during the fight, because seeing a 84-16 bet could be discouraging to some, although this wouldn't matter as much during tournament finals and the such.

The thing I'd like to see is real time cheering, with cooldown timers so people can't endlessly spam "Go Velvet!" during the entire fight. Maybe it could be a small unobtrusive text, with different colors or it could appear on each player's respective side. It could also be something like Brawl's cheering, with crowd voicelines shouting characters names or gasping in surprise.

I agree! Bets should be something just for the crowd, as I don't even think that sort of thing is disclosed to participants in actual sports. Also, that's exactly what I had in mind for the cheering! Not only does it give the spectators a way to participate, but that can really boost the confidence in their favored fighter knowing that it's coming from actual players. If I were to fight with spectators watching me, I almost feel like my gameplay is being judged, and am afraid to mess up. Or worse, embarrassed by how badly I might be getting beaten. Something like what you suggested would be helpful in that regard.

What @Rodya said. Especially seeing as I have played a game where this betting system is a thing, it does demoralize you before the match if you can see nobody bets on you. Though it is awesome to be the underdog and come out on top despite what everyone thought.

Betting might cause some delays, as well. Once two people decide to fight each other, the crowd would have just a little time to get their bets in before the fight begins, while adding in a 'betting period' would probably delay the start of the fight for the two people actually in the match.

It could also be a PR problem. A game with art like this should attract kids (and that's a good thing!) but having a game that introduces kids to betting on sporting events might not be great PR buzz. But I don't really know.

The cheering, I can get behind right away! As long as it doesn't rob any ping from the two people in the match, I think that's an awesome idea that emphasizes how great this game's community is.

I absolutely adore the pixel lobby — as someone who likes the aesthetics of a lot of fighting games but has never really been good at the genre, my playtime with most fighting games I've bought is very short-lived. One reason for that being the lack of any external modes other than the fighting. I could always chill in the menus/gallery in those games to take a break, but being able to move a character around in a relaxed setting is such a nice luxury of the Pixel Lobby that really keeps me feeling connected like, "Yeahh I'm still in the game world right now."

Spectator cheering would be great fun! With an option to turn them off of course, if they're too distracting for some players. But I would loove a little system like this, the spectators showing their real-time reactions during a fight with little emotes of their ungulate avatars making faces in the corner like:arishock2:and . It would make a match much more engaging and fun for the spectators imo

One thing that I'm really hoping for: sit emotes. Like, jus one little sprite for each character so they can rest their hooves instead of stay standing all the time, haha. Maybe even specific benches or logs on the map that act as impassable objects but can be sat on by pressing a button (imagining a group of ungulates sitting around the campfire at night on Arizona's pixel map really makes me want this xD).

Things like this are just so small, but they really do make a game special to me — when there's that extra bit of time put into making cute little things that are there just to be there. I know the team is hard at work with so many things that little novelties like this probably aren't high priority. But the Pixel Lobby is where I plan to spend the majority of my playtime (along with some other players I'm betting), so I do hope it to be as fun and endearing it can be!

Betting would be fine if it was for AI vs AI matches, sort of Salty Bets: TFH edition.

Betting is an interesting idea. But, I think that would run counter to the 'beginner-friendly' dynamic that m6 wanna maintain. Cheering would be fun too, as long as there is a way to keep it from overloading the screen or your ears. I could never get into MvC because of how 100km/h everything appeared.

I for one would adore being able to have my sprite lie-down/sit. Those sorts of details always bump games up from good to great imo. The next step would be having them automatically lie-down once you've been afk for x minutes and/or giving them intermittent idle animations if you go afk for long enough.

Betting might also cause problems if the game ever needs to get rated (come on console editions!). I remember Pokemon lost it's casino slot machine games in Europe because of this.
Steam doesn't require ESRB or PEGI ratings, it should't matter until (if) TFH gets a console port.

Steam maybe don't requires this kind of ratings, but valve tends to overeact about things that are not Legal, or things that valve just guesses are not Legal or not wanted in a particular region and puts freaking Geolocks on the games for no real reason.

Hence the if ;). But let's be optimistic and say when console port! When!

One thing I'd forgotten from the lobby announcement was the snowball fighting in Velvet's lobby. Perhaps there could be something similar in the other character lobbies. Pom's could have ball of wool fights, Arizona...rocks, I guess? And in Tianhuo's everyone gets flame throwers :D.

Or salt.
Wait no - we don't want to encourage people to be throwing salt.
Now what's this about throwing salt!? you do realize that's illegal!?

lol I will be interested what kind of little "games" there are on each pixel lobby. that's if they ALL have some sort of feature, we don't really know if they will. it will be so exciting seeing the other lobby's when this comes out! we've only seen 2 right?

I want to believe that it's possible to organize some sort of Team Deathmatch Battles, or... just Deathmatch? But it would be cool if there could've been a bigger map, mode, or special event for that.
I bet you already had this idea before, or Testers even did something like this.
I imagine it can be like this:
:aricool::arismile3::arismile3::arismile3::arismile3::arismile3: and :olliecool::ollieface::ollieface::ollieface::ollieface::ollieface: start on their Outposts, which are on two oposite edges of Lobby. I guess they should work like safe zones.
1. Teams can have Leaders with their hats.
2. Fights between foes starts just like with Predators. You got caught, you have to enter quick fight imidiately.
3. Make a Health Management if possible, so everyone can get hurt after killing foe.
Also may be being able to regen heath... in safezone? Vulnerable for attack safezone place?
4. After being killed - Wear "I'm dead" Item. Would be cool if there could be a Tombstone that hides your ungulate.
5. Possibility to Escape after some time of defending and avoiding fight?
6. Objectives? Like, protect the leader? Secure him on objective and back?

Yes, there's probably impossible and questionable things and things i missed, so add more rules and explanations!

I made some crude examples of how cheering could work, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible. Of course, you should be able to turn them off if they bother you.
Clockwise from top left:
1- Before the match starts, messages appear on the top middle for both players.
2- Messages appear under timer. This one seems like the most obtrusive to me.
3- Messages appear on the middle bottom for both players. This time, showing memey phrases.
4- Messages + smilies appear under each character portrait. Pretend that we have a proper Velvet emoji.

I also tried to animate the fourth example, since it's the one I like the most. It way too fast tho.

Maybe you can set up to 4 from a preselected list and they map to the arrow keys.
