Before I say anything, I want to clarify that I understand the forums are still a work in progress. I know there are features still being implemented, and any overlap those features have with my suggestions here does not suggest that I thought they wouldn't be implemented at all. I am simply suggesting things I notice are currently missing at this current point in time.
With that disclaimer out of the way, here's a couple things I personally feel would be beneficial to the thread at some point in the future.
  1. Edit button - This one's a pretty big one, and its entirely possible this was just a missed permission check box. Nonetheless, the inibility to edit posts promotes double-posting, which probably less than preferable.
  2. Forum Game/RP sections - This ain't my first rodeo. I've been a member of three other forums before this, and I'm telling you now, these kinds of threads will emerge. And when they do, they will consume the activity feed in whatever section they emerge. Best to contain them in a section all their own, lest they run rampant everywhere else.
  3. Tapatalk integration - I personally do not use Tapatalk all that often. However, I do know many people who swear by it, and I wouldn't be surprised if some here would prefer it for mobile access. I don't think it's 100% necessary, but if it's easy to implement and there are people who would prefer it, why not, right?
  4. Chat tab - A couple XenForo development forums I've been to like to add a tab for an imbed irc channel or something along those lines. Considering you're working towards moderate transparency with TFH, perhaps this is something to look into, be it a backer exclusive or not.
I dunno, that's just my two cents for the time being. Feel free to tear my ideas apart, as I'd like to hear your thoughts on them.

For editing posts, this thread has already got their attention. And as you guessed, something screwy with perms.

Edit: editing has been fixed

This forum could have been named "Them's Fightin' Boards."

A fellow on the Skype chat for the gaming practice group suggested this (his username is exuno5912, but I am not sure who he is here).

How about some TFH-themed emotes to replace the generic ones we have right now?
Yea, that would be cool, but I think I'm willing to wait around for cool widgets. Hopefully the staff can get the bugs/make adjustments to the forums at a fairly decent pace.

So I just noticed that in starting a thread, the title only allows the first letter to be capitalized and automatically lower-cases the rest of it. Can that be changed? 'Cause that's kind of weird.

I would suggest an "other media " section. A lot of people here like other things, so having a place for that would be nice.
I'd go even further and suggest an off-topic forum. It might get tough to moderate (since off-topic forums can get pretty busy), but I think it'd be a nice place for everyone to discuss non-game stuff in general.

There should be a rule about impersonating a dev or mod should result in a ban. I know this can seem pretty obvious to many, but people can still get fooled and scammers will try everything even if there's a large likelihood of it failing.

Under the avatar is any tags like that. If they don't have the tag, 99% chance they are not one.

I concur, but that's not always going to be as apparent to every user, and with most scammers they'll say they're that new mod, and the site hasn't updated their status yet. I'm just saying the actions of impersonation usually will have very malicious intentions that should be ban-worthy.

Rule additions, and changes will happen over time, and I agree with bans for such an act.

Something that bugs me is the little icon near avatars for posts to indicate they are online, specifically that it animates a pulse. I doubt it's possible, but...toggleable animation? Or turning off seeing who's online at all?

I know this is like the silliest complaint that really doesn't make sense (cause it is slightly cool), it just really bugs me specifically. x(

It's an unspoken rule, but can be made explicit if the need arises. Username filter is currently set to catch as many of these problematic names as we could without crippling usernames in general (e.g. "Dev" prevents creating username "Developer", but also prevents "devious" and "Daredevil")

When I highlight text, it uses a black colour to highlight it while the background is dark. So it makes it really difficult to see what I've highlighted. May I suggest a fix?
This seems to be a chrome-specific issue. Will look into it.

One issue I've already seen surface is the lack of place for speculation and setting discussion leading to a spread of confusion.

Let me explain what I mean. The devs have suggested that the Shipping Thread is too text-heavy, despite it mostly consisting of posts that say "I ship X and Y", primarily because most other threads in the Fan Creations forum are devoted to visual artworks. Meanwhile, The Definition Of The World, a thread devoted to speculating about the unseen aspects of Foenum, is in the Them's Fightin' Herds Development forum, hidden in the Backer's Room; this is despite the high probability that nonbackers will eventually want to join in the speculation and said speculation is not, technically speaking, related to the development of the game. There's also the question of whether the Fanfiction thread belongs in the Fan Creations forum, as compared to all the other creations fanfiction is... well, generally different.

It might be best to open a general "Foenum Discussion" forum where all these threads could be moved.

Bit tired, going to bed, but one minor correction I might suggest to the General Discussion forum (this one)?:

"For all your TFH feebdack needs."

Could be some inside joke I'm not aware of, but more likely someone typed too fast and their fingers got crossed, so to speak. Happens to me often enough.

Depending on how much and where the Mane6 dudes end up posting about the game over time, it might be nice to eventually have some kind of "dev tracker" to compile their posts for better visibility.

That doesn't seem necessary? You can just check an individual dev's post history, the same as any user here. If you want to keep track of when a dev posts, you can follow them and it should give an alert (though I think that it's not working atm? I'm following several people but haven't gotten alerts for their posts unlike on other similar forums). If you don't want to follow them, any big pertinent info on the game will probably be shared in a big site/game update anyways.

Where/when did the devs suggest this? I fear I missed the memo.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not doubting that they said as such, rather, I would like to know where they said it so that I might know of a more efficient way to contact them.

Yeah it's probably not really needed, I was just thinking about the idea since a number of other games' forums use it and it's nice to see that kind of stuff at a glance without having to dig through threads for it. I actually didn't know about the follow thing, that'll probably work just as well, especially on a smaller forum like this.

I'm hoping they enable banners for the forums. I already went through the process of making one for the site but even though it shows up on previews when inputting my sig, it doesn't show up on posts (signature box is empty). Explains why I haven't seen banners yet (I half expected it not to even allow a preview). Ah well.

They said no one has perms to put pictures in their signature.

dang, i had put like a placeholder steam card, but thats a shame if its really disabled :/
From the looks of your signature, you have it there but it's being blocked like mine is. I can infer it's there because of the odd extra space in your signature. Mine has the same thing (but above, not below the text) and it's because I put my banner in anyway on the off chance they enable it in the future.

Can't say I like the color shift of the "Crowdfunding Backer" banner from dark-blue-and-blending-in-the-background to garish-light-orange-hey-I'm-here-look-at-me.

We'll see those a lot. A lot. A discreet color gave credit where credit was due while remaining tasteful. Considerable contrast with the forum color scheme is eye-tiring overkill. Please reconsider.

Agreed, it does seems a little garish at the moment. If they want to keep the colored banner, perhaps a lavender or something that doesn't contrast as much? Or perhaps, if they reverted the banner to the more discreet one but wanted to keep the backer status eye-catching, they could change the color of the usernames instead. (which is possible on XenForo forums as can be seen here)

How about a nice #9E0D44, or #7A002D? Looks a little easier on the eyes given the site theme, and it matches TFH.
