I'm gonna post my 3D stuffs here if that's alright with y'all. I'm just starting to learn how to use Blender, and I'm not as artistic as I'd like to be, so input is very much appreciated. PLEASE. Hopefully, there will be a fully animated Oleander and Spideer by the next Work Stream. Until then, here's an Oleander running from a spideer!

I forgot to mention to post your 3D stuffs here if you want! Sorry, new to the whole forum thing. Just keep to the general forums rules laid out by Mane6.

Does it take long ?
It can, Oleander took almost 100 hours to make, and she's still not ready for animation. She needs some facial features like eyelids and eyebrows. I have to balance animating with school and work.

I'm not sure if this is what you're thinking of in terms of input, but one of the things I try to do when I'm modeling is to rotate the models to a variety of angles and look at the outline of the silhouettes. That way you can see if any of the geometry has clunky curves, for lack of a better term. These are nice models to begin with, but for example with Oleander's horn, it tapers differently at the tip than with the rest of it? I don't mean to criticize harshly, and without seeing a wireframe it is hard to tell where the mesh can be tweaked.

Although it's also important to have a balance. If you spend 70% of your time spinning the model you should definitely be looking for ways to spend that time more efficiently.

Literally my first attempt at animation was an Ice Sprite in a house.

I made a Velvet out of cardboard that glows in the dark lol.
She stays on my dorm wall.

If I'm not mistaken, it looks like you're working with subdivision surfaces? (It has been forever since I messed with those, so I could easily be mistaken.) When you've got the fundamentals down, practice is a good way to improve. Eyes and facial features are definitely a difficult part, at least in low poly modeling, that still gives me trouble and you've inspired me to have another go at it. :)

As a major in 3D Animation and Design, its p. friggin sweet to see three dimensional fan work here! :0

...Makes me wish my graphics card could handle Maya 3D at home

Ever thought of using Blender?
If it's less intensive on this old thing, I'd definitely think about it! Maya's normally supposed to be intense on nCloth and rendering, buuut I can't as much as drag-select vertices.. I go to the labs on campus to get my work done >> I'd also have to make sure it was compatable with my .ma files and scenes

Might also just look new computer somewhere later this year; it's gettin' to be about that time again anywho. o:

Hmm, yeah forgot about that. And I think Maya's format is closed so it's hard to wright import/export plugins.
On the bright side, Maya can export models in like 20 different formats; one of 'ems bound to be usable by Blender :0

Blender mainly uses .blend files, but there are a few add-ons that enable it to import about 30 other formats.

Tree things that I just thought of:
1.
If it's less intensive on this old thing, I'd definitely think about it!
Blender can be less intensive, but work quality also tends to decrease unless if you're really patient. I use Blender from my laptop and rendering a simple scene can take hours, but not always. Depends how many samples there are per frame.
2. There will be a new video of an Oli animation up hopefully within the next week.
3. What if make Minecraft versions of the cast of TFH?

Here's the video of Oli's idle position. Let me know what you think!

With Oleander animated and Spideer well on the way, there's is now a poll to choose for your favourite ungulate for the next animation.

The Spideer will be taking longer than originally planned. Her head seems to have gone missing.

But in other news, The vote will be staying open two more days, so vote for your favourite cast member!

The semi-daily update of the spideer. Oh yeah, if you still have no idea what the spideer is, check out the twitch video from Jan 16. starting around 32:30.
Otherwise, here's the spideer's head progress. Not quite a deer head, but it's close. Right?

After four or five days of intense polling, Velvet came out on top, excluding my vote for Pom. The Smug Deer will be animated shortly after the Spideer (which is almost done). But here are the poll results over the past few days.

So here's what I have done with Velvet so far. From here on out, I'll try to post weekly updates, but it depends on if I make any progress over the week or not. As always, if you see some room for improvements, let me know! I'm open to most ideas!
(Edit: I also left the poll open for the next animated character.)

Thankfully, Velvet is coming along more or less nicely. There are currently three (soon to be four) different versions (velsions?) that I'm working on.
Version Number 1
Velvetwk2.1.png

A semi-low-poly character with painted detail. The black lines will not be in the final Velvet.

Version Number 2
Velvetwk2.2.png

Other than the basic model, not much progress. Eventually, Velvet will be sculpted and retopologized to be low=poly but also more realistic than Velvet 1.

Version Number 3
Velvetwk2.3.png

My first time working with dynamictopology. This Velvet will be high-poly and sculpted to be as realistic as a person with no formal training can make. (i.e. She will take a loooooooooooong time to make.)

Your soup
Wow, kudos to you buddy, that is awesome. Will one of her variants feature fur, or will you go with the Pony-like "just slap a texture on it, so it looks more cartoony".

Thanks! To answer your question, more than likely I'll create a fourth Velvet with fur from Velvet Two. The rest will probably be Pony-like.

There wasn't much progress this week, and there might not be much progress next week either. (Four papers to write in five days! And three of them are 8-10 pages! AHHHH!) But here's what I have so far...
Velvetwk3.1.png

A better painted model of Velvet! (Sort of, there used to be a whole lot more detail, but I forgot to save).

Velvetwk3.2.png

The beginnings of a sculpted Velvet. The dyno-Velvet will more than likely be thrown out.

Oli2.0.png

A new Oleander! (Yes, that's a base mesh for pony OCs from Blendswap. It was under CC-0 licence.) Only this time, she'll have a hoodie! The inspiration came from this image.
LockeRobster was the artist for this one.

Update on Velvet, just about finished sculpting. This will probably be the only Vel-version so Pom can get her chance too.
Velvetwk4.png

But if you think of any TFH ideas that you want modeled, let me know! I've got a list going. And it can be anything related to TFH! If you want an Ice Sprite riding one of Pom's adorable puppies, that might take some time, BUT I will do it!

Instead of working on Velvet like I should be doing, I made a thing.

A corrupted Oleander if Fred turns out to be corrupting Oli. There'll be a better picture tomorrow (or later today).

I started working on a smoking Oli with pruple flamey eyes, but then I found out after 8 hours of rendering that I did it wrong. So here's the one second video that resulted. It looks better if you slow down the video to be as slow as possible.

Since I'm doing things other than working on what I'm supposed to be doing, I present to you one fiery Velvet.

I need to actually learn fire.
